John serves on the board of directors of Junior Achievement of Greater Miami, a nonprofit organization working to promote financial capability, work and career readiness, and business ownership for at-risk youth.
Born in Texas, John earned a bachelor's degree in business and finance from Texas A&M in 2002 and then went on to earn a master's degree in business administration from Regent University, where he was named a Distinguished Alumni in 2011.
As a company, BciCapital has provided financing through the Small Business Administration program, the Minority Business Development Agency, and the Department of Housing and Urban Development Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity. With BciCapital, John has provided credit to more than 40 entrepreneurs across the country. His career started at the age of 13 selling CDs to local grocery stores.
John has been selected by American Banker as one of the Top 10 Most Influential Hispanics in Finance in 2012 and 2013, and by Hispanic Business magazine as one of the top 100 Most Influential Hispanics in the US for the last three years. He is a member of the American Bankers Association and the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia's board of governors.
Formerly, John was a board member of the American Bar Association and the Council on Foreign Relations.[191] He currently serves on the board of Legal Defense Fund for the University of Miami School of Law and is a member of the International Advisory Board of the University of Chicago Law School. He has also served on the board of directors of the Tulane University Law School .
John has been a member of the President's Advisory Commission on Consumer Protection and Quality in Health Care since its creation in May 2003.
