Food environments with fresh food items may have a beneficial effect on dietary intake. Food service establishments offering a range of healthy food may also have a positive impact [26]. The most effective environmental strategies to improve dietary behaviour of young employees are increased availability, accessibility of healthy food, fresh and cold food services and awareness of the value of a healthy diet [26].
In order to maintain a healthy lifestyle and to achieve the target of healthy eating, participants endorsed the strategy of making a choice of food, and were determined to be willing to make a change in their eating pattern. They wanted to make changes in their lifestyle, for example, through cooking at home more to reduce the consumption of energy dense food, like crisps and pizza. They also wanted to improve their knowledge about healthy and unhealthy food. One participant stated that she would like to be more aware of what is in food products, for example on the manufacturer's name.
Contrary to that, one participant felt he could buy healthier foods, like fruits and vegetables. He would like to shop for healthier food products but believed he could not afford to buy them. He wanted to become more aware of the food choices he would have to make to achieve adequate energy intake and more desirable diets. Furthermore, he was aware of his own eating habits and aimed at making necessary changes for the benefit of his health. He stated that he wanted to make changes in his life style, for example, physical activity, which indirectly affected his dietary intakes. He described his habits and food preferences, and the strategies used to deal with them, for example, he kept food records which he used to identify bad eating habits or obtain subsidies to purchase healthy foods. For him, health was not synonymous with weight loss, but the state of his health, and included physical, mental, emotional and social health, thus requiring changes in more than one behaviour. Participants complied with rules and regulations regarding health related topics and answered the surveys directly instead of completing it via somebody else. One participant has experienced negative reactions towards him when he made health-related comments in front of friends or family members. Participants have referred to the influence of family members, peers and family meal occasions on their dietary intake. d2c66b5586
